Here are some of the latest Walkability Wins — because safe streets aren’t up for debate!

As part of the Open Streets Summer Series, Walk Bike Nashville hosted a five-mile, car-free loop around downtown three times over the summer! Nashvillians showed up to explore, meet up with each other, and just linger in the street.

Shout out to Cole for this amazing win!

The City of Salina recently implemented street updates around the local YMCA that are improving pedestrian safety and accessibility — including a raised crosswalk with a rapid-flashing beacon! These upgrades, along with painted crosswalks to connect the parking lot and placing fields to the YMCA, are making pedestrians safer, slowing traffic, and creating a more welcoming environment for everyone.

Thank you for Michelle for this amazing win!

The City of Bothell is eliminating off-street parking mandates for new businesses! This move will help to improve walkability, encourage density, and lower emissions in the community.

Walkability isn’t just for humans… Montana passed bills earlier this year to create funding streams to build wildlife crossings! These crossings will directly improve road safety, as 13% of all collisions reported in Montana annually are related to wildlife, which poses a serious risk to both people and animals.

New Mexico has a new state law that allows bicyclists to yield at stop signs and treat red lights as stop signs when safe. The state is one of a dozen that has implemented the ‘Idaho Stop,’ which has been linked to reduced bike-related crashes!
