Priority Health has tapped Carrot Fertility to provide reproductive health support to members, the companies announced Monday.

Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Priority Health is the second largest health plan in Michigan and offers plans for employer groups, individuals, Medicare and Medicaid. It has about 1.3 million members. Carrot Fertility, based in Menlo Park, California, is a fertility and family-building platform. It provides support for pre-pregnancy, maternity, parenting and menopause.

The partnership, which will start on January 1, is available to fully-funded and self-funded employer groups. Carrot Fertility will offer two design solutions to employers: Carrot Core and Carrot Pro. Both of the solutions include support for fertility treatment, pregnancy, postpartum, gestational surrogacy, adoption, menopause and low testosterone.

Carrot Core offers access to the Carrot platform, educational resources, and guidance for various journey types, along with unlimited telehealth chats with experts. It includes Priority Health fertility coverage, access to fertility pharmacies, a network of fertility providers, and connections to adoption agencies and specialists in gestational surrogacy, menopause and hormonal health.

Carrot Pro, meanwhile, builds on the Carrot Core benefits by adding extra coverage for adoption, gestational surrogacy, pregnancy and postpartum services, such as doulas and milk shipping. With Carrot Pro, employers can tailor financial benefits to cover additional services not included in the Priority Health plan.

“Our goal with this partnership is to make it as seamless as possible for employers to offer their employees comprehensive fertility, family-building, and hormonal health benefits,” said Adam Johnson, chief growth and strategy officer of Carrot Fertility, in an email. “Through this partnership, we’re providing fully insured and self-insured employer groups with inclusive options so they can support their team members whether they’re pursuing fertility treatments, surrogacy, adoption, pregnancy and postpartum care, or something else.”

Priority Health chose to work with Carrot Fertility for three reasons, according to Rick Abbott, senior vice president of employer solutions at Priority Health. The first is that their care spans “all aspects of life,” from pre-pregnancy to lifelong hormonal support. In addition, the two companies have a shared mission to expand access to affordable healthcare services, and Carrot is focused on “creating an experience that puts our members at the center.”

More and more employers are looking for fertility and family-building support for their employees. According to Carrot Fertility’s 2023 global fertility at work report, 75% of respondents said that fertility benefits are an important part of an inclusive company culture. Fertility benefits can also help with recruiting and retaining talent, according to Johnson.

In working with Carrot Fertility, Priority Health aims to “make family planning, reproductive health and hormonal support services more accessible to employers wishing to offer such services to their employees, as well as increase the affordability and accessibility of these services for our members,” Abbott stated.

Other companies that provide fertility, family-building and menopause support include Maven Clinic and Progyny.
