Intermittent fasting, a diet that follows time-restricted eating, has been on the rise in recent years (1). At MyFitnessPal we’ve taken note of this uptick in people who practice intermittent fasting.

We’re passionate about empowering people to reach their health and fitness goals, and we’re always looking for new ways to improve our app to make reaching those goals easier.

Whether you’ve been intermittent fasting already, or are simply curious about the eating pattern’s potential health benefits, this Premium feature allows you to easily fit fasting into your lifestyle.

WHAT’S IN MYFITNESSPAL’S INTERMITTENT FASTING TRACKER?

With MyFitnessPal, you’ve grown used to tracking your steps, water intake, weight, caloric intake, and nutrition. With the Intermittent Fasting Tracker, you can also track your fast duration and follow your progress toward your goals.

Looking to try out intermittent fasting for the first time? Our app includes a quick guide and tips to help evaluate whether it’s right for you and your goals. (Of course, we always advise consulting with a healthcare professional before getting started with any dietary changes.) If you’re already familiar with the basics, keep on scrolling for more features.

Find out if intermittent fasting is right for you.

CHOOSE A FASTING DURATION GOAL

Not sure where to start? Each 24-hour period has a fasting window and an eating window. You’ll choose one of three fasting patterns depending on your lifestyle or goals. Fast for 12, 14, or 16 hours. During your fast try to stick to zero-calorie drinks like water, coffee, and tea. During eating windows, enjoy regular meals and be sure to hit your protein goal. And don’t worry, you can change your fasting pattern at any time.

The choice is yours.

START AND STOP YOUR FAST ON DEMAND

While it’s ideal to keep your fasting start and end times consistent, we get that life doesn’t always run on schedule (1). It remains completely up to you when you want to start and stop your fast.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS WITH EASE

You can view the Intermittent Fasting Tracker under the More menu. You can also log meals, exercise, and hydration in the same app for more comprehensive tracking. This makes monitoring your progress even easier.

NEVER FORGET A FAST

Forgot to start your timer? Not a problem. Ensure you capture every minute of your fasts accurately with the ability to modify the start and end times. Forgot to track your fast completely? We’ve got that covered, too—simply log the fast manually for any of the days you forgot to track.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

View the details of your fast by week in your Fasting History screen. See how consistent you are day to day and how you’ve improved over time.
