Digital musculoskeletal company Hinge Health and Amazon Health Services are joining forces. Hinge Health is the first MSK care provider to be added to Amazon’s Health Condition Programs, the companies announced on Thursday.
Amazon’s Health Condition Programs include employer-covered digital support for mental health, high blood pressure, pain relief and diabetes. Users gain access to health coaches, therapists, specialists and additional support. Other companies offered are mental health companies Rula and Talkspace, and diabetes company Omada.
With the addition of San Francisco-based Hinge Health, Amazon customers searching for products related to back, joint or muscle pain will now be prompted for Hinge Health’s program. They’ll be able to check to see if their insurance plan or employer benefits cover Hinge by filling in their legal name, date of birth, email, employer name and insurance carrier. They can also go directly to Amazon Health to check their eligibility.
If they are eligible, they’ll fill out a short questionnaire with Hinge Health and then will receive a tailored treatment plan for exercise therapy and education. If needed, patients can also receive the FDA-cleared Ensa wearable device for non-addictive pain relief. In addition, care is overseen by a care team that includes physical therapists and health coaches.
“Amazon’s Health Condition Programs connect people with quality digital health solutions that fit their specific needs, often available as an employer-sponsored benefit. We’re excited to collaborate with Hinge Health, our first musculoskeletal care partner, to simplify the journey to better health for those experiencing back, joint, or muscle pain,” said Aaron Martin, vice president of healthcare at Amazon, in a statement.
About 40% of adults in the U.S. battle back, joint or muscle pain. The 2024 State of MSK Care report reveals that 46% of respondents don’t fully understand the benefits provided by their or their spouse’s employer. Furthermore, nearly 70% said they don’t make the most of the benefits available to them.
By teaming up with Amazon, Hinge Health ultimately aims to reduce reliance on pain medications, prevent avoidable surgeries and grow awareness of its musculoskeletal care services, according to Daniel Perez, CEO of Hinge Health.
“This collaboration is a step forward in expanding access to evidence-based musculoskeletal (MSK) care, which is proven to reduce pain and improve health outcomes. … We’re meeting people where they already are — on Amazon — and guiding them toward effective MSK care that they may not otherwise know about,” Perez said in an email.
The partnership with Amazon follows another collaboration Hinge Health announced with menopause company Midi Health in August. Through this partnership, Hinge Health members receiving movement-based menopause support can also access clinical care from Midi Health.
Other digital musculoskeletal companies include Sword Health and Vori Health.
