Manifestation doesn’t need to be complicated. That’s the thought behind timeline jumping, a technique that asks you to figure out how you want to be in the world and then be that.

Artist and energetic strategist Pea started timeline jumping in 2018 during a challenging life period. “I had the urge to sensationally feel the reality where I was experiencing what I wanted,” she says. So she closed her eyes and allowed herself to embody a version of herself that was completely safe. Shortly after, she quickly sold some of her art, allowing her more financial security.

“I kept doing this thing where I closed my eyes, and it felt like falling into a new body,” she says. “I kept falling into these embodied experiences, and then they manifested.” The approach shares similarities with the scientific theory of a quantum leap or jump, in which energy abruptly transitions from one state to another.

“Whoever you are being—and ‘being’ is a combination of what you’re being, thinking, actions you’re taking, etc.—is going to be absorbed and reflected back to you by reality,” says Pea.

Pea shared her experience on Instagram to viral effect. The term has since taken on a life of its own, trending across social media and sparking Pea’s own followers and beyond to imagine—and live as—their best selves. And while timeline jumping may be a new term, similar visualization and manifestation approaches are embraced by spiritually minded thinkers the world.

“Timeline jumping doesn’t feel like it’s mine—it felt like an experience that I found and then I asked god to name it for me,” says Pea. “It was really really cool that I got the opportunity to be the one to put a voice to this inherent energy.”

Shifting your reality involves making a simple choice to think and feel differently about your now moment, even without any changes in your external reality. Then feeling and thinking that way for however long it takes for your experience to mirror your embodied state.

How to Start Timeline Jumping

The following exercise may come more naturally than you’d expect.

“This process, to me, feels very inherent and body-led,” says Pea. “A lot of people feel that way about timeline jumping. Like, ‘Oh, I’ve known how to do this!’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I think we’re built knowing how to do this.’”

Still, step-by-step instruction is always welcome.

1. Acknowledge Where You Are

Being clear about your current reality is a good place to start.

Pea notes that deciding to walk through life with a new perspective, and allowing your actions to echo that, may come more easily to some than others. Someone who has experienced trauma or tends toward pessimism, for example, may need some reminders and support in order to commit to new choices.

2. Choose Your Own Adventure

Stepping onto your new timeline is as easy as identifying the “you” you’d like to inhabit.

“You can just say, from here on out, I think like a millionaire,” she says, stressing that this is how you would be as a millionaire, not how a random millionaire would behave or feel. There is no right or wrong way to embody it. “I’m going to think like this from here on out and move on. Just play with that and see what happens. ”

3. Keep It Simple

Like most manifestation practices, timeline jumping is as easy as you allow it to be.

“You get to choose how you be, and that could be choosing a shift in thought, choosing a shift in feeling, choosing a shift in action, but allowing those shifts to be simple choices,” says Pea.

4. Commit to Your New Reality

Commitment is key. Once you choose your new you, keep choosing it until it’s reflected in your outer world. This means feeling into bodily sensation, paying attention to your thoughts, and adjusting your actions accordingly.
