MAN v FAT recently launched a pilot club in Margate, supporting over 50s to participate in our incredible community with men of their own age.

Whilst we have many, many men in MAN v FAT who are 50 or older, we had had feedback that they might like their own group, where the pace of football was just a touch slower.

The pilot club in Margate has got off to a flying start and Brad Rogers was the first to hit his 5% weight loss landmark.

We caught up with him to find out more:-

How have you found the early weeks of MAN v FAT Seniors?  The early weeks of MAN v FAT Seniors have been a refreshing change. It’s been challenging but in a motivating way, thanks to the camaraderie and the shared experiences of others in the group.

Having played football for years, I’ve found that combining the sport I love with a structured weight-loss plan keeps me focused.

As a senior leader in a healthcare company that focuses on the health and protection of the elderly, I also feel a responsibility to lead by example when it comes to staying active and healthy, which makes the programme even more meaningful to me.

What benefits have you found from participating with a group of men of a similar age? Participating with a group of men of a similar age has been one of the most motivating aspects of the program. It creates an environment where we all understand each other’s struggles, both physically and mentally.

I’ve noticed that the shared sense of humour, the competitive spirit, and the life experiences we all bring have fostered a strong bond.

As someone responsible for the wellbeing of others in my professional life, it’s been important to also prioritise my own health. This group helps me stay accountable in a way that aligns with both my personal and professional goals.

What has been the story of your early successes with your weight lossMy early successes have come from reintroducing consistency into my fitness routine, coupled with the competitive aspect of the MAN v FAT structure. I’ve also found that my son, who plays as a goalkeeper, has inspired me to lead by example.

Watching him push himself at such a young age reminds me of the discipline and joy that football brought to my life, and I’m trying to channel that back into my routine.

The combination of this personal inspiration and my responsibility as a leader in healthcare has given me the drive to not only lose weight but improve my overall wellbeing.

What are your longer-term aims with MAN v FAT?My longer-term aims with MAN v FAT include reaching and maintaining a healthier weight, while continuing to improve my fitness. But beyond the numbers, it’s about keeping football as a fun and integral part of my life.

I want to stay active so I can continue being a role model for my son, showing him that perseverance and determination pay off.

Additionally, as someone who works in healthcare, I want to practice what I preach—taking care of my own health and wellbeing so I can set a positive example for those around me.

I aim to build lifelong habits that will help me maintain my physical and mental health as I get older.

Have you tried other routes to achieve weight loss and why has MAN v FAT worked for you?  I’ve tried various other routes, including clubs like Weight Watchers, but MAN v FAT has worked for me because it combines two key things: football and teamwork.

Unlike other programmes, where I often felt isolated in my weight-loss journey, here, I’m surrounded by others who share a passion for football and understand the challenges of getting older while trying to stay fit.

As someone in healthcare, I’m very aware of the importance of keeping active, but I’ve found that it’s much easier to stay committed when I’m part of a group with shared goals. This competitive yet supportive environment has been a big factor in keeping me on track. It’s not just about the scales; it’s about being part of something bigger and healthier.

Our MAN v FAT Margate Senior club runs on a Monday night at Margate FC. Sign up here!
